Mark Bassett

Mark Bassett is Assistant Conductor for Berkshire County Youth Choir.

Originally from Northern Ireland, Mark studied Primary Education with Music at University of Reading. Here he held choral and conducting scholarships which allowed him the opportunity to further his studies and perform across the UK and Ireland.

Singing and Conducting

Mark has a huge passion for opera, leading to principal roles such as Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and Tamino in Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

He now takes great pleasure in directing the choirs at Bracknell and Caversham Music Centres, working with the County Youth Choirs, supporting schools to deliver engaging music sessions and inspiring young singers to reach their potential.

My first week at Maestros

Mark had an unforgettable start to his time at Berkshire Maestros, joining Berkshire Youth Choir for a week of rehearsals for the BBC Proms directed by Simon Halsey, concluding with a performance under the baton of Marin Alsop alongside the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
