My passion for music ignited at secondary school when I began double bass lessons with Diana Songer-Hudgell and Tony Hougham. I joined Essex Music Services’ fantastic orchestras before gaining a place in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. I vividly remember my first rehearsal with NYOGB, sitting in an enormous bass section (12 players!), playing ‘Mars’ from Holst’s Planets – I was hooked for life! I went on to study music at Clare College, Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music, where my double bass teachers were Graham Mitchell, Dominic Seldis, Tom Goodman, and Chi-chi Nwanuko.

I have performed with many orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. I have been invited as guest principal double bassist with the BBC Philharmonic, Ulster Orchestra and Belgium’s Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen. I enjoy different styles of music and have performed at the BRIT awards and in touring musicals, including Les Misérables.

I feel extremely fortunate to have had wonderful teachers at every point along my musical journey. I am dedicated to spreading that enthusiasm and knowledge to others. At Berkshire Maestros, in addition to teaching double bassists, you might find me assisting an ensemble, teaching improvisation and composition, or mentoring students interested in academic music. When not performing or teaching music, I enjoy playing board games and going on long walks with my Dad’s Irish Setter, Meggie.
